The World Dog Show in Dortmund 2003 - a gigantic "dog festival", and almost 19.000 dogs from 55 countries were entered, this was the largest show within the FCI so far!

All the various breeds were shown and judged, the world championship in obedience took place, the title "Champion of the World Dog Show" was awarded as well as the "Champion of the Junior Class in the World Dog Show", a championship of crossbreeds was held, performance of a huge show programme, more than 100 information points of Breed Clubs within the German Kennel Club VDH were presented and many, many stands offered the newest products for dogs so that every dog enthusiast was able to find something according to his taste.

Were there any Eurasiers in Dormund? Of course there were! 138 Eurasiers were entered, males and females in all classes. The rings were outside, wonderful! And we were impressed: Apart from ZG members interested to watch the show, 2 Eurasiers from the ZG had actually been entered, one male Eurasier in the open class - he got the grade "very good" - and a female Eurasier in the open class achieved "excellent"! Now that should encourage us all to present our ZG Eurasiers at larger events. The Zuchtgemeinschaft has Eurasiers worthy for competition. (By the way, what is judged, is the appearance of the dog and the presentation!).

In the various Eurasier rings I saw many beautiful Eurasiers that caught my eye. The organisation of the show was good. As usual the judgements were taken differently: If one liked the dog and it got a good result, the judge was considered "very objective", if the result was not as expected, the judge was thought .... ! Showing is a championship that deals with good looks and has therefore a lot to do with personal taste, but never with the personal value or breeding value of a dog.

My own, very personal impression of the World Dog Show on the 29 May 2003:

Dortmund, Westfalenhalle, is easy to find, has plenty of parking space (don't forget to memorize your number!) and the weather was beautiful and very warm. All the halls, lower floors and outside areas were literally filled with dogs, it was immensely "full" everywhere, people squeezing through the halls, very noisy, the air was sticky and just trying to see half of what was on offer, caused stress. But, there were many friendly helpers from the VDH, a well organized plan helped to find your way through, and where, please, can you find so much about and for dogs? Where can dog interested people see so many breeds, including the own preferred breed?

In one word: It was chaotic, but wonderfuuuuuuuul! Provided that the ZG does not have other tasks for me next year during the "Dortmund-weekend", I will happily go to Dortmund again to enjoy some more stress!
