My Approach to Links
There seem to be no limits for the ever growing number of websites on the internet. The actual number of websites is not known and any estimates would not last for long, anyway. Immediately a question springs to mind: How can I find a website that gives me the information I am looking for? ... and the answer follows after a mouse-click: by use of search engines.
But: The number of search engines is also growing on a daily basis and it can be predicted that future internet surfers might easily forget what they were looking for while trying to find the most suitable search engine. Business already lurks around the corner, offering a solution to this problem, and a profitable turnover seems to show the way for the once "free" internet into commercialization. A "small" financial fee enables the immediate entry into the data bank of a search engine and a "slightly" higher amount of money could even buy a higher "ranking".
So, now, we are discussing the dream of every webmaster, actually a nightmare: the page ranking.
High ranking means that your homepage shows up on page one of the listing once a search engine was triggered by a certain keyword and is therefore a precondition for success, because 80 percent of your visitors will visit your homepage after using such a search engine... At least this is what those people say who earn money with it and who offer cunning solutions.
However, the link-fab has come up. Hints and tricks are offered, the wildest formulas (algorithms) are thought up and link exchanges are agreed. All aiming to place the own URL (the homepage address) on as many websites as possible, hoping that by doing so and applying the algorithms, the page-ranking might be positively influenced. Or, in other words: The more the own homepage address appears on other websites, the higher the chance that the webpage will come up on the first page of a search engine if a certain keyword is entered. It seems totally irrelevant whether this homepage appears on a promotion site for homemade noodles or on a politically most incorrect site. It seems that the content of a homepage no longer counts - all that does count, is the increase in links - and, oh yes, not to forget the "disclaimer" (the author of this homepage takes no responsibility whatsoever for the quality, correctness, completeness, etc. of any offered information... )
What can we possibly do against this trend?! Relax and take care that our ZG-homepage is interesting, up to date, correct, complete and offers quality!
Google to or Yahoo fro (note the links!) - wonderful pictures, interesting texts, sound information and up to date reports should be the aim of our website.
