Children -  If possible, puppies and children should grow up together. The Eurasier is fond of children. But small children and toddlers should never be left with an animal without supervision.

Documentation - You should receive the puppy´s pedigree at the latest when your puppy is 4 months old (it cannot be much earlier as the paperwork involved is enormous and needs to be sent to various places). If you have not received the pedigree by then, ask your breeder.

Dog sports -  Eurasiers enjoy all kinds of dog sports such as agility.

Dog training classes -  It is recommended to begin with puppy classes. Attendance of obedience classes and training as a Companion Dog would be an advantage.

Final inspection of the litter - This inspection is done by a specially trained "Breed Inspector" of the club when the puppies are 7 - 8 weeks old. A written report will be issued and you can receive a copy of it from your breeder.

Food for your puppy during the first few days - You will receive a diet sheet from your breeder.

Life expectancy - Eurasiers can reach the age of 14 to 16 years. The average is 12 years.

Literature - Our active representative for the puppy placement can name some helpful literature, so could your breeder.

Male or female? - Usually, newcomers to the breed might find a female easier to handle than a male.

Membership with the Zuchtgemeinschaft -  We would welcome your membership as it is easier to stay in touch with you, the Eurasier-owner, and especially with your Eurasier. Our quarterly magazine "Eurasier-Nachrichten" contains tips and information. In addition, you can receive advice through very experienced Eurasier members this way. The club organizes Eurasier gatherings and walks that help members to stay in touch with each other and exchange their experiences.

Microchip - Unmistakable identification for a dog. This is the only identification acknowledged by the VDH. The chip is implanted beneath the skin.

Money and payment – Please discuss this with your breeder and find out the exact price and the conditions of payment. Usually the puppy is paid in cash on the pick-up date.

Picking up your puppy at the breeder's - At the age between 8 and 9 weeks old (minimum weight of the puppy 4000g), please discuss picking up your puppy with your breeder.

Raising your puppy - Just like our breeders did, in your home and in your garden.

Showing - We would be very happy if you participated in shows, especially if you have a beautiful specimen of the breed Eurasier. This way you could help to make the Eurasier better known.

Taking your puppy home with you - By car (if possible together with another person), by train or by plane (puppies are considered as "hand-luggage" and can come with you into the passengers area on short flights).

Tattoe -  A form of identification the VDH asked for until the year 2001. Veterinarians have differing opinions whether a tattoe should already be applied to a puppy or if it should be done lateron in combination with the x-ray under anaesthesia. See also Microchip.

Representative for puppy placement - Mrs Christa Stuhr, Waldkamp 5, 21039 Börnsen, Germany, Tel. 0049-(0)40-7201607, Fax 0049-(0)40-7297373.

Vaccinations - Your puppy will have received its initial vaccinations and will have been dewormed. You will also receive the vaccination certificate as proof. Please remember to have the follow-up vaccinations done towards the end of the 3rd month.

VDH - Verband für das Deutsche Hundewesen (the official German Kennel Club for all breeds), the largest and most well-known organization for all dog breeds in Germany and associated with the FCI.

Visiting the litter - To get to know the breeder, the brood bitch and her puppies. Recommended from the completed 4th week onwards.

Waiting period - Please ask the active representative for puppy placement.

Walks or Exercising -  Daily two or three times, amounting to a total of 2 hours. An adult Eurasier will also enjoy jogging or running along a cycle.

X-ray - Should be done when your Eurasier is 16 months old. The "hip-deposit" you paid the breeder will be refunded to you after you have turned in two good x-ray pictures suitable for evaluation.

Your puppy´s name - Can you influence it? Talk with your breeder.

ZG - The Zuchtgemeinschaft was founded in 1973. The Zuchtgemeinschaft für Eurasier is the second senior Eurasier Club in Germany.

ZG and Breeding - In all honesty, the breeders within the ZG do not sell Eurasiers with a guarantee for breeding, because any possible genetic defect could only be detected through a check-up by a veterinarian at the age between one and two years. But the ZG does guarantee a very carefully and thoroughly considered choice of the females and males that are used for breeding. Our first priority is to strive for well-tempered and healthy Eurasiers. If your Eurasier is healthy, we would be very happy if you could make your Eurasier available for breeding, even if you only wanted to have one litter with your female. We can only maintain our high standards for the breed if healthy Eurasiers are available for breeding.
