In Memoriam Jürgen Wittstruck, Chairman of the Zuchtgemeinschaft für Eurasier e.V.

Jürgen Wittstruck parted from us after a short and severe illness on July 19th, 2004. His death came without forewarning and hit us especially hard. With dedication, Jürgen Wittstruck fulfilled all of his duties as chairman of the ZG until only a few weeks ago, so there were very close personal bonds to him up until the end. Our deep and sincere sympathy is with his wife Andrea and his family.

Family Wittstruck became a member of the Zuchtgemeinschaft für Eurasier e.V. in 1977, when they could pick up their first Eurasier Voslim vom Jägerhof from Charlotte Baldamus. As they were very interested members, they then visited all the meetings and gatherings in southern Germany, and they were always very welcome guests at the Jägerhof. Charlotte Baldamus was so fond of the Wittstruck family that she entrusted them with her last two Eurasiers short before her own death. Jürgen Wittstruck also belonged to the very small circle of people who were allowed to visit Charlotte Baldamus in the hospital during her last days.

This close bond to the Jägerhof encouraged Jürgen Wittstruck and his wife Andrea to join the circle of active members of the Zuchtgemeinschaft. In October 1991, Jürgen Wittstruck was elected as Executive of the ZG. He fulfilled this duty until he was elected Chairman of the Zuchtgemeinschaft in 1995; he was re-elected four times.

Jürgen Wittstruck was a convinced advocate for co-operation between the various Eurasier Clubs and he was involved in the foundation of the International Federation for Eurasier Breeding (IFEZ), which he chaired from 2001 to 2003 on a rotational basis.

It was one of his strengths to encounter tasks with sound logic, knowledge and calmness - not without foreseeing any future impact and with a good deal of humour. Highflying plans without future perspectives were not to his liking, but sound ideas that can carry on into the future.

A good and harmonious co-operation with the members of the executive board, the breeding board and the other active members of the Zuchtgemeinschaft was always important to him. He managed to include all active members in important decisions and to transmit background information to them in such a way that all were on the same level of knowledge. By doing this, he set up a sound fundament of trust that also transmitted to a high degree to our members. Our ZuchtGEMEINSCHAFT (= Breeding COMMUNITY) was his dedication and aim.

In the recent magazine "Eurasier-Nachrichten", among other things, Jürgen Wittstruck wrote in the head article referring to changed dates: "But sometimes something can come inbetween and then we have to find an alternative". Those who knew his dry humour could be inclined to sense a slight and bitter hint. But on saying good-bye for his second stay in the hospital, there was hope in his voice. In the recent magazine EN, in his invitation for the annual meeting of the ZG, he hoped to "... meet again and to get to know new ZG Eurasier friends at the river Elbe". We cannot fulfill his wish to meet again in this world. We are left behind with our deep sorrow and the memory of a cherished and good friend, a combatant for the Eurasier, who dedicated his spare time for more than half of his life to the Zuchtgemeinschaft für Eurasier e.V. - just like that - simply because he was so fond of and loved the dog breed Eurasier.
