Rules in the German Kennel Club VDH state that male and female dogs must be assessed before they can be accepted for breeding.
When a Eurasier is between 12 and 13 months old, the owner receives the necessary papers and printed forms from the "X-ray office" of the ZG. With these papers, the veterinary examination of the young Eurasier can take place (examination for: hip dysplacia, patellar luxation, eye diseases, etc. Since July 2005, and as agreed by the breeding board for the next four years, obtaining results for the TLI value is mandatory). The results and report of the veterinary examination are then submitted to the Zuchtgemeinschaft für Eurasier e.V.
These reports and results (which must be suitable for evaluation) are then submitted to a veterinary specialist who evaluates all Eurasiers of the Zuchtgemeinschaft für Eurasier e.V.. Following this evaluation, the owner is refunded the sum of money for the hip deposit. Once the X-ray and veterinary examination have been done, the owner should take up contact with the regional breed inspector (see contacts). The breed inspector will give further assistance:
The breed inspector gives the Eurasier owner answers to all his questions concerning breeding intentions and can explain the assessment procedure in detail. Usually, the breed inspector has already been informed about the result of the veterinary examination and the hip result, and he then informs about the basic requirements for breeding. He can also start to prepare the acquisition of necessary data of the Eurasier (taking measurements, questions about the appearance and behaviour of the Eurasier), thus supporting the work of the Koermeister (a highly trained breed specialist). In every case, Eurasiers in the ZG must be presented to a Körmeister of the ZG for a thorough assessment. Following this assessment, the Körmeister will write a detailed expertise about this Eurasier.
To obtain a breeding permit, attendance of a breeder seminar is mandatory for the owner of a Eurasier female, (as are the veterinary examinations, the positive outcome of the assessment, etc.). For the owner of a male, attendance of a breeder seminar is preferred. The interim solution for females that have been assessed previously, ends at the end of 2006.
This assessment data (the expertise together with all the other results including the X-ray) is completed by a few good photos of the Eurasier (in a standing position as well as head studies, see the ZG Breeding Regulations). Everything is then submitted to our Head of the Breeding Board. The veterinary results, the data, the photos, the expertise of the Körmeister and the own knowledge of the Eurasier, are the basis for the decision whether this Eurasier can pass the assessment successfully. The Eurasier owner is then informed about the outcome by the Head of the Breeding Board.
Important!
Even if you, a Eurasier owner, do not have the intention to breed, or if you have postponed this decision, please go along with this procedure anyway, as the data and X-ray obtained through the assessment procedure is very, very important for the Breeding Board of the ZG. We can only learn through these examinations and assessments if we have bred healthy and sound Eurasiers, or if we need to change or improve on something in our breeding programme. The Zuchtgemeinschaft für Eurasier e.V. would therefore like to ask all responsible Eurasier owners for their assistance.
